Round-Up. November 20th/21st.

Girls:

Warwick Angels U13’s 12-0 Coundon Court U13’s

A three game winning streak for the Under 13’s was ended by a rampant Warwick Angels on Saturday. The hosts – who have won all eight league games this season, netting 65 goals in the process – took an early lead and were 5-0 ahead at the break. Warwick added another seven goals in the second-half to ensure a comfortable victory against a well-spirited Coundon side. Ellie gave the visitors something to cheer about with a succession of excellent saves – including one from the spot in the second-half. The Under 13’s face a tough trip to Bilbrook Ladies next week in the cup, looking to replicate the 2-1 league scoreline at the start of the month.

Derby County U14’s 0-0 Coundon Court U14’s

The U14’s maintained their position at the top of the table with an excellent point away at Derby County. The hosts – who were last week beaten for the first time this season by Sporting Club Albion – were lucky to still be level after early dominance by the visitors as Leigh and Danielle were both denied in front of goal. Derby pinned Coundon back at the end of both halves, but it was the visitors who came closest to snatching a winner, as Megan drove wide and Kia had an effort blocked on the line. The Under 14’s are also in cup action next week, as they play host to Kinghurst Sporting, who currently sit joint second in Division One.

Boys:

Leamington Hibs U7’s vs Coundon Court U7’s

Kian scored and put in a man-of-the-match performance as the Under 7’s took on Leamington Hibs on Saturday. They are also away next week, as they take on Weddington Thistle.

Leamington Hibs U9’s 2-0 Coundon Court U9’s

The Under 9’s lost for the first time in over a month, as they slipped to defeat away at Leamington Hibs. In a tight contest, Hibs took an early lead but were lucky to maintain their clean sheet when Evan struck the crossbar. Coundon pressed for an equaliser, but the hosts broke and scored a second to wrap up the points. There were several positives to take from the performance though, as all eight players did exceptionally well, particularly the efforts of goalkeeper Rian, who made a string of terrific saves. The Under 9’s are back at home next weekend, as they face a tough task against second-placed Massey Ferguson.

Coundon Court U10’s 2-1 Kenilworth Wardens U10’s

The Under 10’s extended their unbeaten run in all competitions to seven, as they saw off Kenilworth Wardens in a tight game on Sunday. After a 3-3 draw in the cup six weeks ago - which was eventually won on penalties by Coundon – Kenilworth were looking for revenge, however strikes by Steve and Connor ensured the points would go to the hosts. The result also sees Coundon leapfrog Kenilworth in the table with 16 points. The Under 10’s are at home to struggling Southam United next weekend.

Coventry Copsewood U11’s 1-8 Coundon Court U11’s

The Under 11’s goal tally now stands at 61 in just nine games this season, after an emphatic victory away at Coventry Copsewood. Owen and Cain both scored twice, plus goals by Sam J, Farris, Jack and Matthew – his 13th of the season – ensured another big victory. The Under 11’s host Coventry Sphinx next weekend.

Coundon Court U14’s 4-5 Haunchwood U14’s

The Under 14’s suffered their second defeat of the season to Haunchwood, despite a spirited display on Sunday. Determined to make up for the 3-1 loss earlier in the season, a Coundon side ravaged by injuries fell behind after failing to deal with a long throw into the box. Keenan struck his first goal for the club to level matters before Haunchwood went back in front with a well-worked goal. The visitors controversially went 3-1 ahead just before the break, when Haig put into his own net despite a blatant foul in the box. Tom dragged Coundon back into the game at 3-2 after the break, only for the hosts to immediately concede to a long-range effort. Steve superbly manufactured a goal for himself, before Tom equalised from close-range to confirm a tremendous comeback. Coundon hearts were broken at the death though, as a cross-turned-shot evaded Damon to steal the points for Haunchwood.

Featured Game - Coundon Court U12’s 6-5 Hawkesmill U12's

John struck just two minutes from time to give Coundon victory over Hawkesmill in an eleven-goal thriller today.

Without back-to-back victories since the end of last season, Coundon twice fell behind early on but brilliantly recovered to hold a 3-2 lead at half-time, courtesy of two goals by Owen and a strike by John. A flurry of goals at both ends in a breathtaking second-half drew the visitor’s level at 5-5. With the clock ticking away, John netted to secure the points in dramatic fashion.

Despite cup success for both teams last week, Hawkesmill started in the ascendancy and found a lead after just six minutes, as the #17 outpaced the defence on the left before firing past Dion. In spite of the setback, Justin’s throw-in from the left played Owen through and he made no mistake, firing under the goalkeeper’s legs to draw Coundon level on eight minutes.

After the breathless opening exchanges, both teams soon settled and the match turned into quite a scrappy affair. Hawkesmill were still looking the brighter of the two teams though and twice came close within the space of a minute via the #8. Firstly he fired straight at Dion from the right side of the box on 12 minutes, before thumping a superb drive against the bar from distance.

The pressure from the visitors was mounting and - after the #9 skewed horribly wide of the left post on 17 minutes – Hawkesmill finally made their dominance pay. A low effort from the #16 was pushed away by Dion and the #17 reacted quickest to slot in his second from close range. Matters were nearly made worse when the #8 skipped past three challenges in the Coundon box before firing wide nine minutes later.

Coundon started to grow in character as the half wore on and equalised just a minute later, as a poor backpass allowed Daniel C to challenge the goalkeeper, the ball subsequently rolled loose for John to nudge the ball into an empty net.

Undoubtedly the turning point of the match came on the 31st minute, as Dion and the influential #8 were both substituted after a scuffle, and the hosts duly took advantage by taking the lead moments before half-time. John put Owen through on goal and he coolly rolled into the bottom right-hand corner for 3-2.

The hosts started the second-half in similar fashion, as a long ball by Jack M put Daniel C through, and he superbly clipped over the onrushing ‘keeper from an acute angle to produce a two-goal lead. That lasted just ten minutes though, as the #7 seized upon a loose ball outside the box before rifling an unstoppable strike into the bottom right-hand corner.

Every attack looked like it was going to result in a goal and Justin kept that trend going with a superb looping volley to restore the two-goal advantage, after Jack M had flicked on Nathan’s throw on 50 minutes. The deficit was again cut just a minute later, as the #7 found himself in an identical position to his first goal, and sent a powerful, rising drive over Daniel R and into the roof of the net.

Disaster struck for Coundon on 53 minutes, as the #7 was adjudged to have been tripped inside the box, and he duly completed his hat-trick with a powerful spot-kick which the goalkeeper was unlucky not to keep out. Hawkesmill very nearly completed the ultimate turnaround with just six minutes remaining when a low drive in the box by the #17 was brilliantly held by Daniel R.

Coundon’s perseverance and endeavour finally paid off in the latter stages however, as Owen did fantastically well to hold the ball up before feeding John on the left-wing, he ran clear and poked beyond the goalkeeper to clinch a stunning victory at the death.

Round-Up. November 13th/14th.

Girls:

Sporting Club Albion U10’s 8-1 Coundon Court U10’s

The Under 10’s were comprehensively beaten by a rampant Sporting Club Albion on Saturday. With the hosts netting 66 goals and conceding just one in the six league games prior to the match, coupled with the fact that Coundon were without the goalscoring prowess of Lia, they were always going to struggle against their unbeaten opponents. Teegan made her debut and netted a consolation for the visitors. They will face familiar faces in a fortnight’s time, as the Under 10’s again take on Sporting Club Albion.

Warwick Angels U11’s 1-3 Coundon Court U11’s

Mia netted a superb hat-trick – her 8th, 9th and 10th goals of the season - as the Under 11’s maintained their four-game winning streak, away at Warwick. Milly also made her 50th appearance for the club. The Under 11’s are also back in action in a fortnight, as they travel to Knowle Girls, looking to avenge the 2-1 defeat earlier in the season.

Stratford Town U12’s 0-11 Coundon Court U12’s

The Under 12’s kept up their pursuit of Sporting Club Albion at the top of the league, with a thumping victory over table-propping Stratford Town on Saturday. Sophie netted four and Mya added a hat-trick, and doubles by Jess and Harriet completed the rout. Stratford are still without a goal this season, after the home defeat.

Coundon Court U13’s 5-3 Walsall Ladies U13’s

It was a third win on the bounce for the Under 13’s, as they twice came from behind to secure an emphatic victory at home against Walsall. After falling behind early on, Ciara netted an equaliser, only for Walsall to go back ahead at 2-1. Milly equalised, and then added her second from the penalty spot to end a breathless first-half at 3-2 to the hosts. Walsall levelled matters at 3-3 in the second-half, before a stunning strike by Emma put Coundon ahead at 4-3. The hosts ensured the three points late on, as Milly bagged her hat-trick – her 89th altogether and now a joint club record. The result was made more impressive by the fact that Coundon fielded just nine players for the entirety of the match. The Under 13’s face a tricky trip to Warwick Angels next week, hoping to halt their unbeaten record at the top of the league.

Coundon Court U15’s 4-2 Belvedere U15’s

The Under 15’s moved to the top of the league with a fantastic victory at home to Belvedere. Trailing their opponents on goal difference prior to the match, Roisin fired the hosts into a 1-0 lead. Jenny and Chloe added to the scoreline, before Jade added a 4th goal late on – her first goal in two years.

Boys:

Coundon Court U7’s vs. Dunlop Blue

Kian, Oisin, Rami and Alex netted in an excellent performance against Dunlop Blue. The hosts dominated the first-half - and opted to experiment in the second – with Dominic and Michael both appearing in goal for the young side. The Under 7’s are away at Leamington Hibs next Saturday.

Coundon U8’s vs Coventry Sphinx

Nathan scored his 9th and 10th goals of the season in a spirited display against Coventry Sphinx. The Under 8’s travel to take on Coventry Copsewood, also next Saturday.

Binley Woods Juniors U9’s 2-5 Coundon Court U9’s

The Under 9’s cup run continued with a thumping 5-2 victory away at Binley Woods. Man of the match Oliver netted twice, whilst Kyle continued his rich vein of form with his 4th goal in just three games. Brook added another, before Andre confirmed victory with his 3rd goal of the season. The Under 9’s are back in league action on Sunday, as they take on Leamington Hibs.

Coundon Court U10’s 7-0 Dunlop Blue U10’s

Rhys scored for the 6th consecutive game as the Under 10’s advanced to the next round of the cup with a comfortable victory against Dunlop Blue. The in-form striker netted a hat-trick en route to the win, with Jack, Steve, Josh and Ryan also getting their names on the scoresheet. The Under 10’s face a test next Sunday, as they host Kenilworth Wardens for the second time this season. They faced each other in cup action just over a month ago, as Coundon edged out their opponents on penalty kicks, after a 3-3 draw.

Coundon Court U11’s 13-0 Leamington Hibs Blue U11’s

The Under 11’s took their tally to 53 goals in just eight games this season, as they hammered Leamington Hibs Blue in cup action on Sunday. Matthew netted four, Sam J struck twice, and there were also goals for Sam A, Farris, Jordan, Jamie - his first for the club, Thomas, Jack and Owen. The Under 11’s will be hoping for a similar performance when they take on struggling Coventry Copsewood away next Sunday.

Rugby Town Colts U12’s 3-8 Coundon Court U12’s

The Under 12’s recorded their first victory in four, as they defeated Rugby Town Colts in the cup on Sunday. Owen struck a hat-trick to tally seven goals for the season, whilst Justin, Jack M, James, Will and George all found the net, to book a place in the next round. They are back in league action next Sunday, as they host Hawkesmill.

Featured Game - Coundon Court U14’s 2-0 Alvis Colts U14’s

Second-half goals by Haig and Tom were enough to condemn Alvis Colts to defeat, and send Coundon Court into the third round of the John Bryan Coventry Minor League Under 14 Cup.

Off the back of a thumping victory over Leamington Brakes Colts in the previous round, B League Alvis fought valiantly in the first-half, but the quality of the hosts shone through in the second as Haig’s deflected effort forced a lead. Coundon pushed forward looking for a second - and after missing a host of chances – Tom chipped the goalkeeper with just two minutes remaining to seal the win.

After a slow start with very little to choose between the teams, Coundon burst into life on 11 minutes as Josh met a loose ball with a thumping half-volley which was tipped away for a corner by the goalkeeper. The visitors responded in a positive fashion, as the #7 and the #10 were both sent clear on the right-wing, but Coundon dealt well with both and managed to clear away. The latter then forced Damon into his first save on 18 minutes as he broke free on the right, but the stopper was equal to a timid effort at his near post.

The match was starting to grow as a spectacle, and a minute later Sam sent an ambitious left-footed drive just over the bar from the edge of the box. In a similar fashion, the Alvis #7 cut inside on 26 minutes and hammered a shot which cleared Damon’s goal.

Undoubtedly the best chance of the half went begging two minutes later though, as Haig’s inviting corner found Daniel, who glanced a header just wide of the left post. Coundon went close again just a minute before the half-time break, as George’s deep corner from the left picked out Sam, but he directed his volley just wide of goal.

The hosts flew out of the traps in the second-half and very nearly netted an opener on 39 minutes, as substitute Ayo rolled the ball back for Owen, who rattled the post with a thunderous, low drive. Haig went one better on 48 minutes, as he met Ayo’s cut back from the right-wing with a first-time effort that deflected in via the body of an Alvis defender, to give Coundon the lead.

Despite the goal advantage, Coundon took their foot off the gas and let Alvis back into the game, yet were still looking threatening on the break. Sam had a strike easily saved from distance, before Daniel picked out Tom with a sublime ball on 53 minutes; he ran clear on the left but rolled the ball just wide of the right post.

The hosts then had two chances in two minutes, as Sam’s free-kick was comfortably held and then Ayo raced clear on the right flank but was wasteful with his finish as he blazed over the bar from close range.

Coundon Court were still looking much more dangerous in attack, but Alvis were pushing forward in numbers late on. The #8 sent a warning to the home team when he broke clear of the Coundon midfield on 63 minutes, before lashing a low strike that was well held by Damon.

The match was finally settled five minutes later though, as a poor back pass was seized upon by Tom, who brilliantly looped over the ‘keeper to confirm victory. Owen had a chance to put gloss on the victory when he controlled Haig’s low shot in injury-time, but he disappointingly slammed his strike well wide of the right post.

Coundon Court Donate Shirts To Uganda.

Coundon Court's latest team received their brand new kits this week...over four thousand miles away!

50 kits were sent from the club to Angorom, in the north-east of Uganda - via Coventry-based charity Global Care - who are in the process of building the Ron Newby Memorial Primary School in the town.

Recent reports suggest that 25% of the Ugandan population lives in chronic poverty, and with the country still recovering from civil war in the 1980's, this has left Uganda as one of the poorest countries in the world.

Global Care's Paul Rowell talked about the special moment he passed the kit onto the youngsters, he said: ''It was one of those memorable moments, the chair of the PTA asked the football team to come forward and there was the normal sized eleven and substitute group of boys, I then produced the football kit and all of a sudden the football team became forty plus strong!''

Under 14's boys manager and club spokesman; Barry Morris, was also full of praise for the scheme, he added: ''Most clubs must have old kit sitting around doing nothing, we wanted to do something worthwhile with ours, and with just a little effort I think we have achieved that. Our thanks to Global Care for making it possible.''

The school is named after Global Care founder Ron Newby, who set up the charity in 1983.

Girls:

Coundon Court U10’s 4-0 Solihull Borough U10’s

The Under 10’s followed up last week’s thumping victory over Leafield, with a comfortable win over Solihull Borough on Saturday. Lia set Coundon on their way as she struck twice, to take her tally up to an astonishing 18 goals in just six matches this season. Emily thumped in a long-range effort, and Ella completed the rout with a cool finish after intercepting a weak goal kick, to wrap up their fourth victory of the season.

Coundon Court U11’s 1-0 Sutton Strikes U11’s

A single strike from Hannah S. was enough to give the Under 11’s their third consecutive victory and their first at home all season. Hannah’s goal – her fourth in the last three games – also meant that the girls hadn’t conceded since the defeat to Knowle over a month ago.

Coundon Court U12’s 3-1 Starland St. Anne’s

Three late goals were enough to give the Under 12’s a superb victory over a battling Starland St. Anne’s. After being on the receiving end of a 4-2 defeat to the Streetly-based club a fortnight ago, revenge was on their mind, but they didn’t make the greatest start by conceding in the first-half. After Natalie had made an excellent save from the penalty spot, the tides changed as Jess struck a superb free-kick to level matters late on, before Mya headed the hosts into a priceless lead. Sophie wrapped up the game with a third goal in the dying moments.

Bilbrook Ladies U13’s 1-2 Coundon Court U13’s

Arguably the result of the weekend saw the U13’s snatch victory from the jaws of defeat, as two very late goals overcame Bilbrook Ladies. Despite being thumped 11-1 back in September, the result didn’t deter the girls who put in a tremendous performance all match, yet trailed to a solitary goal from the hosts. Milly equalised with just three minutes remaining and with the clock ticking away, Cerys fired home to snatch all three points. Her 12th goal of the season, whilst still maintaining the superb feat of scoring in all seven games this campaign.

Coundon Court U14’s 4-3 Sporting Club Albion U14’s

The Under 14’s are now unbeaten in eight games, after coming from behind to brilliantly defeat Sporting Club Albion by the odd goal. There was seemingly no repeat of the 2-1 victory a fortnight ago, as Coundon trailed 3-1 at the break, courtesy of some sloppy defensive play. Leigh – scorer of Coundon’s opener – teed up Danielle to pull a goal back at the start of the second half, and then equalised herself with 15 minutes remaining. Danielle netted her second of the morning – and fifth of the season – to dramatically clinch all three points with just a few minutes left on the clock.

Wyrley Juniors U15’s 2-0 Coundon Court U15’s

For the second time this season, the Under 15’s were defeated by Wyrley. Two first-half goals were enough to ensure victory, and the girls will hope to get back to winning ways against Belvedere next week.

Boys:

Coventry Jaguar Youth U9’s 0-4 Coundon Court U9’s

The Under 9’s followed up last week’s drubbing of Chapelfield Colts with another 4-0 victory, this time over Coventry Jaguar Youth. Despite dominating the first-half, it took until the start of the second half to make their pressure pay off. Brook struck a free-kick, then added another just seconds later to put the visitors in control. Kyle and man of the match Ben, added further strikes to wrap up a comfortable victory. The Under 9’s are in cup action next week, as they travel to take on Binley Woods.

Whitley Juniors U11’s 2-9 Coundon Court U11’s

Following defeat in the Nursing Cup to Southam in their last match, the Under 11’s hit back in destructive style by hammering Whitley Juniors 9-2. Matthew was the big scorer, netting five goals – he now has 80 for the club - whilst Jordan chipped in with two, further strikes by Cain and man of the match Owen, compounded the hosts to a miserable defeat.  The Under 11’s are also involved in the cup next Sunday, as they play host to Leamington Hibs.

Coundon Court U12’s 1-6 Kenilworth Wardens U12’s

Coundon Court were defeated by high-flying Kenilworth Wardens on Sunday. Wardens - who had conceded just five goals in six league games prior to the match - lead 2-0 at half-time. Despite pressure by Coundon, they couldn’t break the visitors down and they netted three more in the second half. Daniel pulled a goal back to take his tally to a remarkable 19 goals in nine league games this season, but Kenilworth had the final say by scoring a sixth late on.

Coundon Court U14’s 2-2 Rugby Town U14’s

The Under 14’s showed tremendous fight and spirit to come from behind to grab a point at home to Rugby Town. Despite managing to field only ten players, Coundon were superb in the first-half and were twice unlucky to concede. Sam followed up Tom’s shot to pull a goal back, before Theo set up Tom to equalise with just over ten minutes remaining, his sixth goal in just four games. The visitors hit the post and forced Damon into a series of excellent saves late on, but Coundon clung on for a superb point. The Under 14’s are back in action when they take on Alvis Colts in a friendly next Sunday.

Featured Game - Coundon Court U10’s 3-3 Dunlop U10’s

Rhys scored twice as Coundon Court twice came from behind to snatch a deserved point at home to Dunlop this afternoon.

The hosts did not make it easy for themselves though, as they fell behind to two early strikes in a frantic opening, but first-half goals by Rhys and Jack restored parity at 2-2. Dunlop again forced a lead just three minutes later, but a dominant second-half saw Rhys net his second to give Coundon a share of the spoils.

With only one loss in their first eight league games, it was no surprise that table-topping Dunlop started the match in the ascendancy, and they found the back of the net after just a minute. A long ball sprayed out towards the right-wing found the #8 in acres of space; he sprinted clear and brilliantly lofted a delicate chip over George and into the far left corner.

Matters were made worse just two minutes on, as Rhys lost possession deep in the Dunlop half, and the visitors duly broke at speed. The influential #4 prodded the ball beyond the Coundon defence, which allowed the #10 to sprint clear, round George and tap into an empty net from close range. Just three minutes on the clock and Coundon were two goals behind.

In a truly remarkable response, Coundon found themselves back in the game just a minute later via the boot of Rhys. Spencer’s huge clearance from defence caused havoc in the Dunlop box, and the Coundon striker seized upon the opportunity to rifle beyond the goalkeeper and into the bottom left-hand corner.

With every attack looking likely to result in a goal, Spencer and Ryan briefly put pay to that with a couple of stunning challenges to deny the Dunlop #10 a further strike just seconds later. With attacking seemingly prioritising over defending, it was no surprise when Coundon equalised on 6 minutes. Ben’s instinctive left-footed drive from the right was controlled by Jack, who then brilliantly fired an unstoppable shot into the top left-hand corner, to drag the host’s level at 2-2. It was the sixth consecutive game the captain had scored in, and was a fitting reward for a spirited and battling first-half performance.

Coundon were on level terms for merely three minutes though, as a mistake by Spencer let in the dangerous #10, who wasted no time before lashing an unstoppable effort beyond George from the edge of the box for his second goal.

Despite the plethora of goals inside the opening nine minutes, both teams finally began to settle after Dunlop took the lead, and Coundon had to wait until the 18th minute to threaten the visitor’s goal again. Ben’s left-footed cross wasn’t dealt with by the defence, as Rhys nicked the ball ahead of the goalkeeper, but he couldn’t find the net from an acute angle on the right.

This appeared to be the catalyst for the gung-ho approach which occurred in the early stages of the game, as the Dunlop #5 went on a marauding run just a minute later but blazed over the bar from a tricky angle on the right. A minute later and Rhys was the focal point again, winning the ball in attack and feeding Ben on the wing, his well struck drive was spilt by the ‘keeper, before the Dunlop defence hurriedly cleared away for a corner.

The second-half started in much the same vein as the first, with both teams consistently looking threatening in attacking areas. The Dunlop #10 received the ball from the #11 on the right side of attack, his touch was too heavy though, and George did brilliantly to block at the strikers feet. The Coundon stopper was again at his best to deny the #10 just a minute later, as he got across to save a low drive from the left flank.

On 28 minutes, Jack showed superb composure to jink past three challenges on the left-wing, before cutting in and smashing a shot which was beaten away by the Dunlop goalkeeper at his near post. At this point, the home side were looking far more threatening, with Rhys and Ben causing the visitors plenty of problems in the wide areas. Connor was the next to try his luck on 35 minutes, as he cut in from the left-wing and thumped a low effort into the arms of the goalkeeper.

Dunlop were now being pegged back deep into their own half, and were very nearly undone by a magnificent move on 37 minutes. Connor and Rhys played a superb one-two in the middle of the pitch which set the latter free on the left-wing, he cut back onto his right foot and crossed into the box, the ball struck Connor before agonisingly clipping the top of the bar and bouncing over.

With pressure mounting, Coundon finally breached the opponents net with just five minutes remaining to draw level at 3-3. Connor received the ball from Ben with his back to goal; he immediately pulled the ball back for Rhys on the edge of the box, and he brilliantly dragged a left-footed shot beyond the goalkeeper and into the net, via the right post.

This gave Coundon the confidence to find a winner in the dying moments - and they very nearly did - as Rhys was denied a hat-trick in a breathless encounter, by a terrific low save by the Dunlop goalkeeper at his right post.
