Round-Up. December 11th/12th.

Girls:

Coundon Court U10’s 2-7 Sporting Club Albion U10’s

The Under 10’s suffered their second defeat on the bounce to Sporting Club Albion in the second round of the cup on Saturday. After losing 8-1 away to the league leaders in their last game back in November, Coundon were looking for revenge and started the brighter of the two teams before falling behind. Emily scored her eighth goal of the season and a late own goal made the scoreline seem a little more respectable for the hosts.

Coundon Court U11’s 0-2 Knowle Girls U11’s

The Under 11’s were brought back down to earth after losing at home to Knowle, also in the cup. After four consecutive victories, Coundon were high in spirits going into the game but never really got going against a Knowle side who sit just two points below them in the table. It was the second time Knowle had travelled and beaten Coundon this season, following a 2-1 league victory at the start of October.

Coundon Court U12’s 9-0 Leamington Lions B U12’s

Harriett and Sophie both netted hat-tricks as Coundon thumped bottom club Leamington Lions B on Saturday. Harriett – who scored four in the reverse fixture earlier in the season – took her tally to 12 for the season with the treble, whilst Sophie now has 13 in this campaign. Jess added two and Bailey scored her first goal for the club, as Coundon kept up their pursuit of Sporting Club Albion at the top of the league.

Bilbrook Ladies U13’s 3-1 Coundon Court U13’s

The Under 13’s couldn’t replicate last month’s magnificent league effort, as they were dumped out of the cup by Bilbrook. After a 2-1 success in the same fixture a little over a month ago, Coundon dominated the first-half but couldn’t find a way past the Bilbrook goalkeeper. The visitors kept the pressure up and Cerys netted the opener at the start of the second half, but were quickly pegged back by a looping finish by the hosts. Bilbrook twice netted in the next 15 minutes and that was enough for them to book a place in the next round of the cup.

Coundon Court U14’s 14-2 Kingshurst Sporting Club U14’s

The cup holders are through to the next round, after a thoroughly resounding victory at home to Kingshurst. The visitors, currently sitting in fourth place in Division One – a league below Coundon – could field only nine players and were duly punished by the rampant hosts. Brittany struck five and Rhea netted two – their first goals for the club – whilst Leigh also struck twice. Charlotte Ha, Chelsea, Lianne, Hannah and Charlotte Ho. also found the net, as Coundon ran out easy winners.

Coundon Court U15’s 2-1 Warriors U15’s

The U15’s picked up a huge cup scalp as they defeated Warriors on Saturday. Despite playing in a league below, Jenny fired Coundon ahead in the first-half. The visitors equalised, but Coundon pushed forward and scored a winner in the second-half.

Boys:

Coundon Court U9’s 6-1 Alveston Juniors U9’s

The Under 9’s bounced back from their defeat to Leamington three weeks ago with a victory over struggling Alveston Juniors. Brook took his tally to ten for the season with a double, whilst Andre, Kyle, Ben and Oliver also scored to cap off a comfortable win.

Chapelfield Colts U14’s 3-3 Coundon Court U14’s

The U14’s became the first team to take points off high-flying Chapelfield Colts this season, after a thrilling draw on Sunday. With eight wins from eight thus far, the hosts understandably started the more confident and took an early lead through the forward. Coundon responded in a positive fashion and grew into the game much more, as Ayo struck the bar then fired just wide of the post. The visitors finally got back into the game through a bizarre own goal just before the break, as a backpass rolled under the goalkeeper’s foot and into the net. Despite dominating the start of the second-half, Coundon fell behind to a long-range effort, but responded almost immediately as Ayo wriggled into the box before finding the net. Coundon took the lead for the first time with ten minutes remaining as George outpaced the defender before firing home. They couldn’t hold on though, as a corner wasn’t properly cleared and was eventually scrambled in from point-blank range.

Coundon Court Football Club - A short (and hopefully interesting) history...

It dawned on me the other day that whilst this blog is informative and may be interesting to some, it's not very personal and I haven't really given you an insight into what goes on within the club. Essentially rendering this blog as just words on a page. Which is probably not the look I really should be aiming for, is it?

Although the foundations of Coundon Court FC began in 2002, we - as the same group of players (and coaches for that matter) - had gone through the stages of being Allesley Aces (1999/2000), Hawkesmill Juniors (2000-2002), and then finally settling as Coundon Court Football Club.

The sole reason I wanted to join Allesley Aces back in 1999, was to be able to play in the same team as all of my mates. I did not care much for success or being the best in Coventry, I just felt there was more intrinsic value to playing in a team with people I grew up with.

Would it be fair to say that this 'family' ethic still continues to this day?

You only have to be present at Coundon Court School of a weekend to realise that the environment has stayed true to it's roots. Richard Seedhouse is still there cracking his awful jokes to anyone that will listen, albeit going slightly greyer on top. Barry Morris is still as bad with keepy-uppies as he was five years ago, whilst Dave Bramley seems to be working in reverse and turning into some kind of (lazy) footballing God. The same familiar faces do pop-up from time to time, and it's that kind of commitment that has certainly helped Coundon Court grow in stature in the eight years since it's inception.

(I will provide a proper profile for people inside the club at a later date, as their work and devotion essentially make the club who we are).

I started coaching at the club in 2005. Ten of us were offered the chance to undergo our JFO Coaching Award, and considering it lead on from training on a Saturday morning, as well as being free, it was a no-brainer. This soon developed into coaching in the 'Community Scheme' for 4, 5 and 6-year-old's every Saturday morning. The most noticeable thing about this scheme (and I can still vouch for this today) is that it was an hour where a child could both learn technique and enjoy themselves. What also hit home about this, was that it was a stark contrast to when I was at that age where opportunities like this were simply never available.

At the last time of checking, six young players who have through the Community Scheme in the last three years have gone on to sign for professional club's Academies, which merely points to prove the effect that a club like Coundon has had in such a short space of time. Watch the video for more information regarding the club.
